At the Masters World Cup, my little sister just made me cry (in the best way)

So this summer? Big one for me. Like, happy-tears big. 🥹
Today the Masters World Cup just ended in Rotterdam, where us “old ladies” get to keep playing field hockey at the highest level.
And my favorite player out there is my little sister, Heather Kenney.
Nobody knows this about her
But for three years she trained for the USA Masters team. And every single year, same result: alternate. FOUR times.
She even played until she tore her meniscus. Then months sitting out injured and recovered again.
And I coached her the whole way. Stay persistent. Never give up. Focus on what's in your control.
This year? She FINALLY made the team!! 🎉
Here she is with your old college teammates having the time of her life!
I couldn't fly to Holland, so I watched her live on World Cup TV, and mid-tournament this text comes through: I lost it.

Because 20 years earlier, I was a silver medalist on the U.S. team at the Pan American Games. And this weekend Heather played Australia and took silver too. So now we're twinsies!! 🥈🥈

But here's the part that stopped me
Just like me, she didn't get a lot of minutes. Just like me, she had to stay positive and cheer on her teammates from the bench.
Just like me, she had to focus on what was in her control. And from the first game to the last game, she improved within one tournament.
Her body may have been ready three years ago. It was her mind that had to keep her going. Focus one day at a time. Believe you belong here. You've earned this.
I was so proud when she texted me this pic from the final ceremony with the 035 team!

And that is EXACTLY the voice YOUR CAPTAINS need walking into preseason right now.
Your team picked them for a reason.
But right now, a lot of them are quietly wondering if they deserve the title, scared to make one mistake in front of everyone, carrying the whole team's mood on their back.
And you can't fix that just from the sideline. It resonates better when it comes from someone who's been in those shoes.
Little did I know, the reason I coach mindset now isn't just about healing my own regrets as a captain. It's also about being a big sister and helping her reach her dreams too!
And now I get to do that for your leaders.
Here's 👇my gift to you before the season starts.
This Wednesday, August 5 at 6PM ET, I'm hosting a free live webinar with a panel of former college captains. Where you'll walk away with:
The accountability conversations nobody wants to practice (it's a game-changer)
How to spot burnout and stop it before it spreads through your whole team
The imposter syndrome your captain is quietly carrying, and what you can do about it
It's built for you to best prepare your captains as you step into preseason.
Because no leader should feel like they don't deserve to be there.
Take one thing from this, and your season changes. See you Wednesday!! 💜
P.S. Can't make it live? Register anyway, and I'll take care of you. Just don't let your captains start this season wondering if they belong.
