FAQs

What sports psychology tools will I learn?

You'll learn the exact same sports psychology tools that elite level athletes use to mentally prepare before every competition, win the moment under pressure, bounce back after setbacks,  and have a post-competition routine to get 1% better everyday. Think: guided visualizations to mentally rehearse success, strategies to break free of self-doubts, and techniques to stay focused no matter the pressure.

We'll show you how to activate confidence on demandbounce back fast, and train your mind to be strong in the face of adversity. This is about unlocking your next level - and making it repeatable.

What is the difference between a Licensed Sports Psychologist and Certified Performance Coach?

A Licensed Sport Psychologist focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions for athletes.  A Certified Performance Coach enhances performance through mental skills training and is not licensed to diagnose and treat mental health conditions.

We don't diagnose or treat clinical issues like depression or anxiety disorders - but we do help athletes master focus, boost confidence, and develop resilience that carries over to every area of life. If you're looking for a proven, coaching-based approach that helps you compete at your best - this is it.

At Mindfulness Athletics, we go beyond traditional sport psychology by integrating mindfulness practices that build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and composure under pressure. Think of it as mental fitness training for you. We use interactive fun activities to help you feel more confident, resilient and focus so you can dominate in your sport.

What are your qualifications?

Robyn Kenney, MA, is the founder of Mindfulness Athletics. She's a Certified Associate Performance Coach (ICF), Certified Mindfulness Instructor, former international athlete, and former collegiate coach. She's been in your shoes as an athlete and knows what colleges are looking for when she was a college recruiter. She uniquely understands what you as an athlete are going through - and now she can help you reach your true potential. Read about Robyn's story here

Robyn teamed up with Dr. Michael DeYoung, a Clinical Psychologist with 30+ years of experience, to co-develop this program - blending real-world athletic insight with deep psychological foundations.  You're not getting theoretical stuff - you're getting science-based tools and expert guidance that has already worked for thousands of athletes.

What is the age of the athletes you work with?

We work with athletes of all ages - from pros to passionate 8-year-olds. Every athlete gets a customized approach based on their age, sport, and goals.

Younger athletes as young as 8 years old get a simplified, engaging version of mental health training that helps them build confidence and focus early. Older athletes over 13 years old and up go deeper into high-performance techniques that help them break through mental blocks, regulate emotions, and compete with a champion's mindset.

No matter where you are on your athletic journey. We help you level up your game so that you can feel confident and achieve your goals.

How much are your services?

Pricing depends on a few key factors - like the athlete's age and how long the issue has been going on. We customize every plan for maximum results.

Book a free discovery call. We'll talk through your goals, share how we work, and answer any questions about what it would look like to train together.

Do you accept medical insurance?

No - we don't bill insurance companies because we don't provide clinical treatment. We don't have a medical license to work with athletes with medical conditions or diagnose mental health conditions such as depression, eating disorders, clinical anxiety, personality disorders or suicidal thoughts.

Do we meet in person or online?

If you're near Silver Spring, Maryland, we can meet in person at a park, library, or community center - and we'll integrate movement-based exercises to make it sport-specific and interactive.

Not local? That's not a problem. Online Zoom sessions are just as powerful. We bring the same energy, attention, and personalized tools whether we're in-person or on-screen.

Do you also work with coaches and teams?

Absolutely. We lead engaging leadership or mental game workshops for clubs, high schools, and college teams. These can be one-time events or multi-week trainings designed to build team culture, emotional resiliency, and championship-level focus.

We also equip coaches with tools they can use with their athletes for practice and competitions - and Robyn is available to speak at events or leadership trainings. If you want to build your team's resilience then we've got you covered.  Learn more about our services for coaches here.
